Inor

A long web partnership around a large product catalogue in four languages

Inor works with temperature measurement. The core of the site is a large archive of products and documents linked to each other, with the whole site and every product in four languages. We have worked together since 2015.

  • Find the right product among hundreds. Together with Inor I developed a product filter, so a visitor can narrow down hundreds of products in many categories step by step.
  • Partners on a map, without Google Maps. The previous map was built on a Google Maps plugin where new versions often stopped working and the filtering broke. I proposed a map of our own and built it from scratch, from wireframes to finished plugin, testing it together with Inor. Visitors choose a part of the world or a country, or search by partner name, and the list below the map shows the right contact.
  • A web shop, ready when needed. I built a complete web shop with product catalogue, product pages and multiple languages. It is prepared for launch but not yet in use.
  • The whole picture. Development, customer training, content and support over the years, and for long periods the hosting as well: server setup, domains and advice on email.

Technical

Architecture & capabilities

Architecture principles

  • No map library and no external map service: the world map is an SVG vectorized from Natural Earth, open map data. There are no API keys to manage and no third-party updates that can break the map
  • Own JavaScript for the map, with jQuery only for DOM and ajax
  • Built as a WordPress plugin. Partners are edited in WordPress and loaded into the map via ajax. They were imported from the previous Google Maps solution

Capabilities

  • Zoom to a part of the world or a country by animating the SVG viewBox with easing and requestAnimationFrame, and panning with the pointer
  • Its own projection from latitude and longitude to map coordinates, so each partner is placed from its position
  • Markers that scale with the zoom level, so they stay clickable when zoomed in
  • Country selector with the number of partners per country, and search by partner name
  • The list below the map is an accordion that follows what is selected on the map

Accessibility

  • Everything that can be selected on the map can also be reached through the country selector, the search and the list
  • Markers are buttons with descriptive labels, the list uses aria-expanded and aria-controls, and changes are announced via aria-live

Way of working

  • Built in autumn 2025 in Cursor, with ChatGPT as support in development
